MLB announces participants of the reformatted All-Star Youth Classic

Major League Baseball today announced the participating teams of the "All-Star Youth Classic," a friendly, round-robin event consisting of more than 140 young baseball and softball players, ages 11-12, held during All-Star Week. The annual event, formerly known as the "Jr. RBI Classic," has been reformatted and renamed to include teams from various national youth baseball and softball organizations in addition to those from the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. The event, particularly friendly tournament games, will be held from July 8th through July 11th at the Robb Field Complex at Ocean Beach in San Diego, the host city of the 87th MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard.

The event, particularly friendly tournament games, will be held from July 8th through July 11th at the Robb Field Complex at Ocean Beach in San Diego, the host city of the 87th MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard.
"We are delighted to welcome these young men and women to San Diego as important participants of our All-Star Week festivities," said Tony Reagins, Senior Vice President of Youth Programs, Major League Baseball. Activities for youth continue to be a cornerstone element of the Midsummer Classic."
The twelve teams scheduled to participate in this ninth annual event includes several special groups, such as Slaterettes Girls Baseball League - an all-girls baseball team out of Pawtucket, R.I.,Child Center of NY RBI - a team from Far Rockaway in Queens, N.Y. that features both boys and girls, two teams - Municipal (baseball) and Tremendas (softball) - out of Tijuana, Baja California in Mexico, and several leagues from the San Diego community.

In addition to the games, the All-Star Youth Classic will provide the kids with the opportunity to participate in All-Star Week events such as MLB All-Star FanFest at the San Diego Convention Center, All-Star Sunday and Gatorade All-Star Workout Day at Petco Park, and various PLAY BALL-related activities.
The All-Star Youth Classic also will offer these young men and women a variety of off-field life experiences, including rooming on campus at the University of San Diego and a community service activity.
MLB All-Star Week includes the MLB All-Star Game presented by MasterCard at Petco Park (July 12th), Gatorade All-Star Workout Day featuring the T-Mobile Home Run Derby (July 11th), All-Star Sunday featuring the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game (July 10th), MLB All-Star FanFest at the San Diego Convention Center (July 8th-12th), plus a lineup of additional events taking place around the region. The 87th Midsummer Classic will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 160 countries. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
