Phillies Agree to Terms with Four Selections

The Phillies have agreed to terms with right-hander Kevin Gowdy (2nd round), shortstop Cole Stobbe (3rd round), left-hander JoJo Romero (4th round) and outfielder Josh Stephen (11th round), Johnny Almaraz, Director of Amateur Scouting announced today.

The Phillies have agreed to terms with right-hander Kevin Gowdy (2nd round), shortstop Cole Stobbe (3rd round), left-hander JoJo Romero (4th round) and outfielder Josh Stephen (11th round), Johnny Almaraz, Director of Amateur Scouting announced today.
Gowdy, 18, played for Santa Barbara High School (Calif.), where he went 4-1 with a 1.59 ERA, 93 strikeouts and five walks in 56.2 innings pitched. He was named a Rawlings-Perfect Game First Team All-American in 2016.
Stobbe, 18, batted .437 with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 51 runs scored and a .990 slugging percentage for Millard West High School (Neb.) in 2016. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder was named Gatorade State Player of the Year.
Romero, a 19-year-old product of Yavapai College (Ariz.), went 11-5 with a 3.64 ERA in 21 games (18 starts) this spring. He led Yavapai in innings pitched (113.2) and strikeouts (129).
The 18-year-old Stephen played for Mater Dei High School (Calif.), where he batted .424 in his senior season with 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 25 RBI in 29 games.
