Prior to tonight's game against the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, outfielder Bryce Brentz was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Brentz will be available for tonight's contest at Globe Life Park in Arlington beginning at 7:05 p.m. central time.

Young, 32, was removed from yesterday's game against the Chicago White Sox in the second inning with a right hamstring strain after singling in his only at-bat. In 48 games with the Red Sox this season, the right-handed batter has hit .277 (36-for-130) with 12 doubles, six home runs, 15 RBI, and a .508 slugging percentage with no errors in 66 total chances over 47 games (33 starts) in the outfield. The 11-year veteran, who was signed as a free agent on December 2, 2015, has hit .237 (1,013-for-4,281) with 608 runs, 268 doubles, 21 triples, 175 home runs, 543 RBI, and 135 stolen bases over 1,291 games with the Diamondbacks (2006-12), Athletics (2013), Mets (2014), Yankees (2014-15), and Red Sox (2016).
Brentz joins the major league roster for his first stint since a nine-game debut in September 2014, during which he hit .308 (8-for-26) with five runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The 27-year-old, who was added to the 40-man roster on November 20, 2013, has split the 2016 season between Double-A Portland (12 games) and Pawtucket (38 games), batting .261 (48-for-184) with 18 runs, 16 doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBI. Selected by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2010 June Draft, the right-handed hitter has 95 home runs over parts of 7 minor league seasons, hitting .262 (576-for-2,196) with 311 runs, 124 doubles, 12 triples, and 373 RBI.
