The Oakland A's selected left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton from Triple-A Nashville and optioned left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp to Nashville, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's transferred right-handed pitcher Henderson Alvarez to the 60-day disabled list.
 
Overton was 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 14 games, 13 starts, at Nashville, including 7-0 with a 1.40 ERA over his final seven starts. He is tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in wins, ranks fourth in ERA and fifth in strikeouts (72). The 24-year-old left-hander surrendered just two home runs in 83.2 innings with the Sounds. He will become the third Oakland pitcher to start in his Major League debut this year and the fifth to make his first Major League start. Overton was the A's second round selection in the 2013 First-Year Draft but did not pitch until 2014 after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery.
 
Surkamp was 0-5 with a 6.98 ERA and .327 opponents batting average in nine starts over four stints with the A's. He tossed fewer than five innings in seven of those starts, including last night against Los Angeles when he allowed four runs in 3.2 innings in a no decision. Surkamp had two losses and an 8.25 ERA in three starts during his most recent stint with the A's. He is also 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA in five starts with Nashville.
