The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday and placed right-handed pitcher Joe Ross on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Strasburg, who will start for Washington on Sunday afternoon vs. Cincinnati, returns to the Nationals' active roster after missing 17 games with an upper back strain. The right-hander is 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA in 14 starts this season. He ranks third in the Major Leagues in strikeouts-per-nine-innings with 11.42.
Strasburg, 27, is in the midst of a Nationals/Expos record 13-game winning streak dating to Sept. 15, 2015, and, this year, he became the first National League starter to begin a season 10-0 since San Diego right-hander Andy Hawkins went 11-0 in 1985. He will take the mound on Sunday as the only remaining qualified starter in the Major Leagues not to suffer a losing decision.
Ross, 23, visits the disabled list for the first time in his young career. The right-hander is 7-4 with a 3.49 ERA this season. In his second Major League campaign, Ross ranks 11th among National League starters in right-handed opponent on-base percentage (.251).
