Scott's, MLB, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Astros to open ballfield

Ribbon-cutting and baseball clinic to take place at Morefield Boys & Girls Club tomorrow morning with special ceremony scheduled pregame on the field at Minute Maid Park.

July 5th, 2016

Scotts®, Major League Baseball, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the Houston Astros are celebrating the opening of a newly refurbished ballfield for the Morefield Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston tomorrow, July 6.

The new field will be unveiled at a special dedication ceremony tomorrow morning with Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation COOKevin Bingham, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston President and CEO Kevin Hattery and Astros Foundation and Community Relations Executive Director Twila Carter. Following the ceremony, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will lead a baseball clinic on the new field for 50 young athletes from the Boys & Girls Clubs.

The effort is part of Scotts®' It's Good Out Here™ Field Refurbishment program, a partnership between Scotts® and MLB to give back to youth and communities by renovating youth ball fields around the country over the next three years.

"These field refurbishments are just one way we can give back to youth and communities across the country," said Josh Peoples, Vice President and General Manager of Scotts. "Encouraging fans and family to get outside and enjoy activities like baseball is what this program is all about."

Tomorrow evening, representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs will be recognized on the field of Minute Maid Park during a pregame ceremony celebrating the opening of the new field prior to the 7:10 p.m. contest between the Astros and the Seattle Mariners. The Astros will host 50 members of the Morefield Boys & Girls Clubs for that night's game.

"The Astros Foundation is proud to work with Scotts®, Major League Baseball and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and to open this new ballfield," said Twila Carter. "Making baseball and softball accessible to underprivileged youth is a big part of what we do at the Astros Foundation and with our Community Leaders program, and we couldn't be happier to have a newly renovated ballpark available to young Houston athletes."
