The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Jose Leclerc from Triple-A Round Rock. Leclerc (#62) will be in uniform for Tuesday's game in Boston and will be looking to make his major league debut.
To make room for Leclerc on the active roster, the team has designed left-handed pitcher Michael Roth for assignment.
Leclerc, 22, has combined to go 1-5, 2.64 (13 ER/44.1 IP/50 SO) in 22 games/2 starts with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock this season. He opened the year in Frisco's rotation, allowing 7 runs in 8.0 total innings. Since that time, he has posted a 1.49 ERA (6 ER/36.1 IP) in 20 relief outings.
Promoted to Round Rock on May 26, Leclerc is 1-0, 1.69 (4 ER/21.1 IP/22 SO) in 12 games with the Express with an opponents' batting average of .143 and a WHIP of 1.08. He has allowed just 2 runs in 14.0 IP in his last 8 games.
Leclerc is in his 6th pro season and was primarily a reliever from 2011-14 before making 22 starts at Frisco in 2015. He was added to Texas' 40-man roster last November.
Roth was purchased from Round Rock on Sunday and allowed 10 hits and 6 runs in 3.2 innings in his only outing on Monday at Boston.
The Rangers have 10 days to option or outright Roth to the minor leagues.
The Rangers' major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
