Mariners activate infielder Ketel Marte from the 15-day disabled list

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced that the club has activated infielder Ketel Marte from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the Mariners Major League 25-man roster, infielder Mike Freeman has been optioned to AAA Tacoma.
Marte (No. 4) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 p.m. PT) game vs. the Detroit Tigers.
Marte, 22, appeared in 4 games on a rehab assignment with Short-A Everett and AAA Tacoma, batting .286 (4x14) with 2 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 2 RBI. In 2 games with Everett, Marte hit .333 (2x6) with 1 double, 1 home run and 1 RBI. Marte appeared in 2 games with AAA Tacoma, batting .250 (2x8) with 1 run, 1 double and 1 RBI. In 74 games with Seattle this season, he is batting .273 (77x282) with 36 runs, 17 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run and 19 RBI. Marte was originally placed on the disabled list on July 23 (retroactive to July 20) with mononucleosis.
Freeman, 29, made his Mariners debut on Sunday (Aug. 7) vs. Los Angeles - AL and collected his first Major League hit and first RBI, going 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. In 2 games with the Mariners this season, Freeman hit .333 (2x6) with 1 RBI. Prior to being recalled from AAA Tacoma on Sunday, Freeman hit .421 (8x19) with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI in four games with the Rainiers. He was claimed off waivers from Arizona on Aug. 1. Prior to his acquisition, he hit .317 (108x341) with 56 runs, 17 doubles, 6 triples, 1 home run, 24 RBI, 38 walks, 11 stolen bases, a .387 on-base percentage and a .411 slugging percentage in 88 games with AAA Reno this season. In parts of 7 minor league seasons with Arizona and Seattle, he is a career .291 (761x261) with 129 doubles, 29 triples, 16 home runs and 260 RBI in 720 career games.
