The Oakland A's selected left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler from Triple-A Nashville and designated right-handed pitcher Patrick Schuster for assignment, the club announced today.
Detwiler was a non-roster invitee with Cleveland this spring and made the Indians Opening Day roster. He logged a 5.79 ERA in seven relief appearances before he was designated for assignment April 29. The 30-year-old left-hander was outrighted to Triple-A Columbus May 1 and went 2-4 with a 4.60 ERA in 12 starts before he was traded to the A's organization for cash considerations on July 17. Detwiler went 4-0 with a 3.86 ERA in four games, three starts, for the Sounds and is 6-4 with a 4.40 ERA in 16 games, 15 starts, overall at Triple-A.
Schuster has a 10.80 ERA and .321 opponents batting average in five relief appearances over two stints with the A's. He was recalled most recently on Aug. 6 and made his only appearance that day against the Cubs, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings.
