LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson from the 60-day disabled list and recalled right-hander Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Anderson will make his 2016 debut this afternoon after missing the first four and a half months of the season recovering from arthroscopic back surgery to repair a bulging disc on March 3. Anderson made three rehab starts with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA (3 ER/12.0 IP), last pitching on Aug. 8 with OKC at Iowa (Cubs) and allowing two runs on six hits in 5.0 innings (71 pitches).
Stewart, 24, made his Major League debut June 29 at Milwaukee and has made two big-league starts, going 0-2 with 14 runs allowed in 9.0 innings (14.00 ERA). He's combined to go 9-3 with a 1.75 ERA (22 ER/113.0 IP) in 19 minor league starts this year with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, while limiting opposing hitters to a .195 batting average with a 0.85 WHIP and striking out 125 against only 17 walks in 113.0 innings. Stewart last pitched on Aug. 9 with OKC at Iowa, allowing just one hit and striking out four in 3.0 scoreless innings (32 pitches), and is unbeaten since being promoted to Triple-A on June 10, going 4-0 with a 2.76 ERA (14 ER/45.2 IP) in eight starts with Oklahoma City.
In corresponding moves, the Dodgers placed right-handers Brandon McCarthy (right hip stiffness) and Josh Ravin (right triceps inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list and designated outfielder Zach Walters for assignment. McCarthy went 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA in eight starts with the Dodgers this year, Ravin made three scoreless appearances with Los Angeles (2.0 IP) and Walters, who was on the roster of Triple-A Oklahoma City, went 0-for-5 in three big-league games this year.
