SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced that the club has made the following roster moves:
Romero (#17) and Cishek (#31) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. Milwaukee.
Cishek, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Aug. 4 (retroactive to Aug. 2) with a left hip labrum tear. He made two appearances with Short-A Everett during a rehab assignment, striking out five batters in 2.0 innings. Prior to the injury, he was 2-6 with 25 saves with a 3.40 ERA (18 ER, 47.2 IP) with 62 strikeouts and 16 walks in 44 relief appearances with the Mariners this season. Among American League leaders at the time of the injury, Cishek ranked T3^rd in saves with 25. Opposing batters hit just .197 (35x178) vs. Cishek, while right-handers hit .153 (15x98). Cishek recorded 21 saves before the All-Star Break, a career-high for saves prior to the break, surpassing his 20 saves in the first half of 2014. In seven Major League seasons with the Marlins, Cardinals and Mariners, Cishek is 19-26 with 120 saves with a 2.89 ERA (116 ER, 360.2 IP) with 394 strikeouts and 135 walks in 355 career games.
Romero, 27, was hitting .314 (119x379) with 65 runs, 23 doubles, 5 triples, 19 home runs, 80 RBI and a .922 OPS in 96 games with AAA Tacoma. He was a starting outfielder for the Pacific Coast League in the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game. Defensively with Tacoma, he appeared in games at first base (15 G, 14 GS), left field (16 G, 14 GS), and right field (48 G, 48 GS). In one prior stint with Seattle, he appeared in eight games, hitting .200 (3x15) with a double. Romero also appeared in the Majors with Seattle in both 2014 and 2015.
Lee, 34, hit .246 (57x232) with 26 runs, 6 doubles, 13 home runs and 41 RBI in 84 games with Seattle this season. Prior to the All-Star Break, Lee hit .288 (51x177) with 22 runs, 4 doubles, 12 home runs and 37 RBI in 64 games. Since the break, Lee is 6-for-his-last-55 (.109) with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 4 RBI in 20 games. Lee made his Major League debut as a pinch-hitter on April 4 at Texas. Lee was originally signed by the Mariners as a minor league free agent on Feb. 3, 2016. Lee spent the previous 4 seasons playing in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes (2012-13) and the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks (2014-15) after playing 11 seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization with Lotte (2001-11).
Wieland, 26, made his Mariners debut in a start at Oakland on Aug. 12 after being selected from AAA Tacoma earlier that day. Wieland took the loss after allowing 6 runs on 9 hits over 5.0 innings while not walking a batter and striking out 3. Wieland has not made an appearance with Seattle since Aug. 12. In 22 games, including 20 starts, with AAA Tacoma this season, Wieland is 11-5 with a 5.38 ERA (62 ER, 103.2 IP). The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander has recorded 93 strikeouts and 31 walks with the Rainiers this season. Among Pacific Coast League leaders at the time of his selection (Aug. 12), Wieland ranked T2^nd in wins (11) and T10^th in strikeouts (93). In parts of 4 Major League seasons with San Diego (2013-14), Los Angeles-NL (2015) and Seattle, he has combined to go 1-6 with a 6.32 ERA (37 ER, 52.2 IP) with 39 strikeouts in 12 games, including 10 starts.
