Twins recall Mejía, option Vargas

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejía from Triple-A Rochester.

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejía from Triple-A Rochester.
Mejía, who was acquired for Eduardo Nuñez from the San Francisco Giants earlier this season, was rated the 91st best prospect according to Baseball America's Midseason Top 100 prospect list. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound left-hander has a combined 8-5, 3.10 ERA (125.0 IP, 43 ER) with 30 walks and 121 strikeouts in 21 starts between Double-A Richmond, Triple-A Sacramento and Triple-A Rochester this season. A Bonao, DR native, Mejía has made three starts for the Red Wings going 1-2, 4.66 ERA (19.1 IP, 10 ER) with three walks and 20 strikeouts. He is expected to join the Twins tonight in Kansas City and will wear uniform number 49.
To make room for Mejía on the 25-man roster the Twins have optioned Kennys Vargas to Rochester. Vargas hit .259 (22-for-85) with nine doubles, six home runs and 13 RBI in 25 games for the Twins this season.
