Prior to tonight's game vs. Philadelphia, the Chicago White Sox returned outfielder Avisail Garcia from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for Garcia on the roster, the White Sox optioned outfielder Jason Coats to Charlotte.
Garcia, 25, was placed on the disabled list on August 9 (retroactive to August 7) with a sprained right knee. He played in three games with Charlotte on his rehab assignment, going 5-13 (.385) with one home run and four RBI.
Garcia is hitting .240 (69-288) with nine home runs and 36 RBI over 86 games with Chicago this season. He was 5-15 (.333) with three homers and six RBI in August prior to suffering the injury.
Coats, 26, is hitting .189 (7-37) with two doubles, one home run and three RBI over three stints with the White Sox in 2016.
He owns a .329 (81-246) average with 17 doubles, eight homers, 29 RBI, 34 runs scored, a .390 on-base percentage and .902 OPS over 65 games with Charlotte. Coats would lead the International League in average and OPS and rank second in on-base percentage with the required plate appearances.
