Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the New York Yankees:
Zych (No. 55) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the New York Yankees.
Zych, 26, made 4 rehab appearances with the AZL Mariners (1 GS), AA Jackson (1 GS) and AAA Tacoma (2 G), combining to post a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 4.0 IP) while walking two and striking out six. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 3 (retroactive to May 2) with rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on June 24. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound right-hander opened the season with Seattle, going 1-0 with 3.00 ERA (4 ER, 12.0 IP) with 19 strikeouts in 10 relief appearances this season. He recorded his first career win in the Mariners 10-7 10.0-inning victory over the Indians on April 21, allowing 1 walk and striking out 1 in a scoreless 9th inning.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander made his Major League debut with Seattle in 2015, appearing in 10 games in relief after being called up in September. Zych was acquired by Seattle in a minor league trade for cash considerations from Chicago-NL on April 2, 2015.
Romero, 27, hit .235 (4x17) with 1 run, 1 double and 3 RBI in 9 games with Seattle this season. Prior to his recall from AAA Tacoma on Friday (Aug. 19), Romero was hitting .314 (119x379) with 65 runs, 23 doubles, 5 triples, 19 home runs, 80 RBI and a .922 OPS in 96 games with AAA Tacoma. He was a starting outfielder for the Pacific Coast League in the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game. Defensively with Tacoma, Romero appeared in games at first base (15 G, 14 GS), left field (16 G, 14 GS), and right field (48 G, 48 GS). In parts of 3 Major League seasons with Seattle, Romero is a career .195 (42x215) hitter with 26 runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs and 17 RBI in 94 career games.
