CHICAGO -- Prior to tonight's game, the Chicago White Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Colton Turner from Toronto in exchange for catcher Dioner Navarro. To take Navarro's place on the 25-man roster, the White Sox returned catcher Alex Avila from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list.
 
Turner, 25, has combined to go 3-1 with a 1.33 ERA (8 ER/54.0 IP), 70 strikeouts and 13 saves over 44 relief appearances this season between Class A Lansing, Class A Dunedin and Class AA New Hampshire in the Blue Jays system. He averaged 11.7 strikeouts per 9.0 IP, allowed just one home run and limited opponents to a .201 (39-194) average, including a .144 (19-132) mark by right-handers.
 
Turner will be assigned to Class AA Birmingham.
 
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Turner was 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA (2 ER/43.2 IP) and 60 strikeouts over 35 games between Lansing and Dunedin, including a season-opening streak of 25.0 consecutive scoreless IP, to earn a promotion to New Hampshire, where he went 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA (6 ER/10.1 IP) over nine appearances.
 
Turner, a native of Cleburne, Texas, is 12-9 with a 2.76 ERA (71 ER/231.2 IP) and 200 strikeouts in 107 games (16 starts) over five seasons in the Blue Jays minor-league system after being selected in the 21st round of the 2012 draft.
 
Navarro, 32, is hitting .210 (57-271) with six home runs, 32 RBI and 26 runs scored over 85 games in 2016, his first season with the White Sox after agreeing to terms as a free agent on December 4, 2015.
 
Avila, 29, was placed on the disabled list on July 6 with a strained right hamstring. He played in four games with Charlotte on his second rehab stint, going 7-11 (.636) with a home run, three RBI, three runs scored and two walks.
 
Avila is batting .236 (29-123) with three home runs, six RBI and 13 runs scored over 41 games this season, his first with the White Sox after signing as a free agent on November 25, 2015. He was 9-28 (.321) over his final nine games prior to the injury.
 
Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 39.
