Red Sox outfielder/infielder Brock Holt will be honored during a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park on Thursday, September 15, marking the 15th annual Roberto Clemente Day, which pays tribute to the 15-time MLB All-Star and Hall of Famer's legacy. Clemente died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. 
 
Today, Holt was named by Major League Baseball as a 2016 nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award. He is one of 30 club finalists for the annual award, which recognizes a Major League Baseball player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement.
 
An active member of the Red Sox community , Holt has been a supporter of the Jimmy Fund since his first visit with patients in 2013 as part of the Red Sox Rookie Development Program. Since that time, he has made multiple visits to the clinic and met with patients during their annual Spring Training trip to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers and their trips to Fenway Park.
 
For the past two years, Holt has been a spokesperson for the Jimmy Fund helping to promote their fundraising efforts, marketing initiatives, and participating in their public service announcements. In 2015, Holt was named Jimmy Fund Co-captain, a role he continues to hold in 2016, acting as an advocate and ambassadors for the Jimmy Fund. He has participated in the annual Jimmy Fund Radio-telethon since becoming a Major League player in June of 2013, and this pars holiday season, provided gifts to patients in partnership with New Balance.  
 
Holt is also involved with the Red Sox Foundation and MGH's Home Base Program, which provides treatment options for Post-9/11 Veterans and Service Members suffering from the invisible wounds of war. The 2015 All Star is serving as captain of the Home Base Program, lending his name, time, and support. Holt has supported a number of runners at the annual Run to Home Base event at Fenway Park, the program's 5k run and one of its largest annual fundraisers.  
 
In 2015, Holt was named the BoSox Club's "Man of the Year," an award given by the Red Sox' official booster club recognizing a player for their efforts on the field and in the community. Earlier this year, he received the Tim Wakefield Community Service Award at the Boston Baseball Writer's Dinner.
 
The Fort Worth, Texas, native is consistently among the Red Sox' most involved players in the community and with fans. In addition to the Jimmy Fund and Home Base Program, Holt has continued to support survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing during their trips to Fenway Park, participating in the re-launch of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last summer, and participating in the Red Sox' annual Winter Weekend at Foxwoods. 
 
Beginning today, fans are encouraged to participate in the process of selecting the national Roberto Clemente Award recipient on social media by posting voting hashtags to Twitter and Facebook. Red Sox fans can vote for Holt by using #VoteBrock.
 
To enhance the celebration and legacy of Roberto Clemente, starting this year, all 30 clubs will designate a seat in each ballpark as SEAT 21 on Roberto Clemente Day. Each year, SEAT 21 will be designated to a member of the community in recognition of the humanitarian spirit of Roberto Clemente. El Mundo President and CEO Roberto Vassallo III has been chosen to occupy the seat during the September 15 celebration at Fenway Park.
