The Red Sox, the American Red Cross, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center will host the 14th annual Day of Remembrance Blood Drive at Fenway Park on Sunday, September 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Those who are eligible are asked to donate blood in honor of those lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Those interested in donating blood can enter the ballpark through Gate D located on the corner of Yawkey Way and Van Ness Street. A blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification, are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain additional height and weight requirements. Throughout the day, donors will receive $5 off Fenway Park tours.
Since its inception in 2002, the annual blood drive has collected more than 10,000 units, which equals more than 30,000 patients whose lives have potentially been saved. In addition to Fenway Park, the Day of Remembrance Blood Drive will include a location at Faneuil Hall.
