KANSAS CITY, MO (September 7, 2016) - On Saturday, September 17, the Kansas City Royals will wear special batting practice shirts in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Major League Baseball will celebrate the many ways league Clubs and Latino players impact the game on the field and in the Latino community by debuting a special version of the MLB silhouetted batter logo and a new commercial spot.
The Royals shirts are white with a new version of the logo in royal blue, gold and white. The logo contains an accent above the bat in recognition of the prevalent Latino culture in the sport. The MLB Acento logo will be used in ballparks, MLB traditional and social media and on the batting practice shirts. The shirts will also say "#PonleAcento" in recognition of the program, which translates to "put an accent on it."
MLB will also debut a new spot on September 14. The bilingual spot will run in national media outlets and on MLB's social media platforms. Clubs across the league will also host special days in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The Royals hosted their event, Viva Los Reales, earlier this year on June 25.
The announcement was made earlier today by Major League Baseball in conjunction with Roberto Clemente Day. The Royals will celebrate Roberto Clemente Day and honor Eric Hosmer as the Club's player nominee on Monday, September 12. That game is scheduled for a 6:15 p.m. first pitch.
The September 17 game will also be broadcast in Spanish on KYYS-1250 AM, "La Super Estacion." Jose Munoz will serve as the play-by-play announcer for the game. Earlier this year, the Royals and "La Super Estacion" partnered to broadcast 40 of the 2016 Royals games broadcast in Spanish.
