Marlins announce Minor League award winners

The Miami Marlins today named third baseman Brian Anderson and right-handed starter Luis Castillo as the organization's Player and Pitcher of the Year.

The Miami Marlins today named third baseman Brian Anderson and right-handed starter Luis Castillo as the organization's Player and Pitcher of the Year. The announcement was made by Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Anderson began the season at High-A Jupiter, appearing in 49 games for the Hammerheads before earning a promotion to Double-A Jacksonville on May 30. He batted .302 (55x182) for Jupiter, with 27 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 25 RBI, earning Florida State League Midseason All-Star honors. He appeared in 86 games for the Suns after his promotion, hitting eight home runs and driving in 40. He was named the Southern League Player of the Week of August 21; he had a hit and a run scored in all seven games that week, batting .414 (12x29) with eight runs scored, two doubles, three home runs, and eight RBI. He hit .271 (57x210) combined in July and August with Jacksonville, with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
Anderson, 23, was a third-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arkansas. The Edmond, Oklahoma native set career highs in home runs (11) and RBI (65) this season.
Castillo brought home the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year award for Jupiter after going 8-4 with a league-leading 2.07 ERA (117.2 ip/27 er), which also earned him FSL Midseason and Postseason All-Star honors. He allowed three-or-more earned runs in a game just twice in 23 appearances (21 starts) for the Hammerheads, and allowed more than two only twice over his final eight starts for the Club, combining to go 3-1 with a 1.38 ERA (45.2/7) in July and August. He posted career highs in wins (8), strikeouts (103), and innings pitched (131.2) in 26 appearances (24 starts) between Jupiter and Jacksonville this season.
Castillo, 23, is a native of Bani, Dominican Republic; he was acquired from San Francisco in December, 2014.
