The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has exercised a 2017 club option for catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The team has also purchased the contract of infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson from Triple-A Round Rock.
Lucroy, 30, was acquired by Texas from Milwaukee in an August 1 trade. He combined to bat .292 with 24 home runs and 81 RBI over 142 games with the Brewers and Rangers, hitting .276 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI in 47 contests with Texas. When measuring totals while playing catcher, Lucroy led MLB backstops in RBI (80), OPS (.896), and slugging percentage (.530).
Robinson, 24, batted .257 (120-467) with 20 home runs, 24 doubles, and 67 RBI with Round Rock this season, his first full year at Triple-A. He ranked among Pacific Coast League leaders in triples (T3rd, 10) and extra-base hits (4th, 54), and his .830 OPS figure was 8th-best among players with at least 500 plate appearances at the Triple-A level in 2016. The Rangers' fourth round selection in the 2010 June draft, he will be in his eighth professional season and is still seeking his first major league action. Robinson is currently playing for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League. 
With the conclusion of the World Series last night, five players on the Rangers major league roster became free agents: Carlos Beltran, Ian Desmond, Carlos Gomez, Colby Lewis, and Mitch Moreland. After today's transaction, the Rangers now have 36 players on the club's 40-man roster, along with 2 players on the 60-day disabled list: Prince Fielder and Adrian Sampson.
