Colorado Rockies select the contracts of five players

Four right-handed pitchers and one left-hander added to the club's 40-man roster

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Yency Almonte, Shane Carle, Rayan Gonzalez and Zach Jemiola, and left-handed pitcher Sam Moll, adding them to the club's 40-man roster.
Almonte, 22, was acquired by the Rockies via trade from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle on Nov. 24, 2015 … in his first season with the Rockies in 2016, made 27 starts between High-A Modesto and Double-A Hartford, finishing with a 3.58 ERA (168.1 IP, 67 ER), 55 walks and 156 strikeouts … set career highs in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts … was named a California League Post-Season All-Star after finishing third in the league in ERA and tied for second in strikeouts … was promoted to Hartford Aug. 6 where he went 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA (30.0 IP, 10 ER) in five starts … in five Minor League seasons, has gone 27-26 with a 4.24 ERA (407.2 IP, 192 ER), 384 hits, 130 walks and 338 strikeouts … was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 17th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Fla.
Carle, 25, was acquired by the Rockies via trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill on Nov. 11, 2014 … spent the entirety of the 2016 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, where he went 5-8 with a 5.42 ERA (111.1 IP, 67 ER) in 27 appearances, 19 starts … was 4-8 with a 5.70 ERA (96.1 IP, 61 ER), 130 hits, 28 walks and 70 strikeouts in 19 starts, 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA (15.0 IP, 6 ER), 17 hits, four walks and 18 strikeouts in eight relief appearances … the Santa Cruz, Calif., native attended his first Major League Spring Training as a non-roster invitee in 2016, where he went 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA (5.2 IP, 5 ER), four walks and four strikeouts in three appearances, one start … in his first season with the Rockies organization in 2015, led the Double-A Eastern League in wins (14) and tied for the league lead in complete games and shutouts … was named a 2015 Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star … in four Minor League seasons, has gone 24-24 with a 3.93 ERA (465.1 IP, 203 ER), 521 hits, 92 walks and 317 strikeouts … was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Long Beach State University.
Gonzalez, 26, was selected by the Rockies in the 21st round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Bethune-Cookman University … in 2016, he went 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA (52.0 IP, 18 ER), 23 walks and 49 strikeouts in 46 relief appearances with Double-A Hartford … was selected as a Rising Star in the Arizona Fall League after posting a 2.21 ERA (11.2 IP, 3 ER) in 11 relief appearances for the Salt River Rafters … he was rated the 14th-best prospect after the 2013 season, and the 19th-best prospect following the 2014 season … is 9-16 with a 4.02 ERA (203.1 IP, 93 ER) with 94 walks and 235 strikeouts in 189 appearances across five seasons in the Rockies organization … the Aricebo, Puerto Rico native was originally drafted by Oakland in the 18th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign.
Jemiola, 22, was drafted by the Rockies in the ninth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Great Oak High School in Temecula, Calif. … made 27 starts for Double-A Hartford in 2016, going 8-10 with a 4.39 ERA (162.0 IP, 79 ER), 186 hits, 46 walks and 92 strikeouts … his 162 innings pitched were second in the Eastern League … recorded a career-high two complete games, including one complete-game shutout … set career-highs in wins (11), ERA (3.71) and strikeouts (121) in 2015 … in five Minor League seasons, has gone 30-30 with a 4.61 ERA (541.0 IP, 79 ER), 591 hits, 167 walks and 371 strikeouts.
Moll, 24, was selected by the Rockies in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Memphis … in 2016, he went 3-5 with a 4.74 ERA (49.1 IP, 26) across 44 appearances with Short-Season Grand Junction (two rehab appearances) and Triple-A Albuquerque (42 appearances) … was placed on the seven day disabled list with left elbow inflammation on June 15 and was reinstated July 15 … the Lakeland, Tenn., native was ranked as the Rockies 22nd-best prospect after the 2015 season and attended his first Major League Spring Training as a non-roster invitee in 2016 where he went 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA (3.2 IP, 1 ER), two walks and three strikeouts in five relief appearances … across four seasons in the Rockies organization, is 6-8 with a 3.25 ERA (160.2 IP, 58 ER), 49 walks and 154 strikeouts in 101 games with six starts.
The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
