Braves agree to terms with INF/OF Sean Rodriguez

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free-agent infielder/outfielder Sean Rodriguez on a two-year contract for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free-agent infielder/outfielder Sean Rodriguez on a two-year contract for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Rodriguez, 31, has played 624 of his 903 career games in the American League, but he spent the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he played 279 games over the 2015-16 seasons. In 2016 he posted career highs in games played (140), batting average (.270), homes runs (18) and RBI (56). He was named the National League Co-Player of the Week for Sept. 12-18, 2016.
The versatile fielder has played 297 career games at second base, 208 at first base, 163 in the outfield, 154 at shortstop and 115 at third base. In 2016, he started 19 games at shortstop, 18 at second base, 16 in the outfield, six at third base and five at first base.
A native of Miami, Fla., Rodriguez was selected in the third round of the 2003 Draft by the Los Angeles Angels and made his Major League debut with the Angels in 2008. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays late in the 2009 season and played parts of five seasons (2010-14) with the Rays. Rodriguez was traded to the Pirates in December 2014 and re-signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent after the 2015 season.
