The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have named Dan Haren as Pitching Strategist, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Hazen.

In his new role, Haren will work with the front office, Major League coaching staff and analytics department.
"I'm thrilled to be rejoining the D-backs for this new venture," Haren said. "I'm excited to use my experience and work with the staff to help our pitchers prepare and maximize their opportunity to be successful."

Haren, 36, rejoins the organization following parts of 13 seasons (2003-15) in the Majors with the Cardinals, A's, D-backs, Angels, Nationals, Dodgers, Marlins and Cubs. The 3-time All-Star (2007-09) went 153-131 with a 3.75 ERA in 391 games (380 starts), ranking among the Major League leaders in that time in walks-per-9.0 IP (2nd, 1.86), starts (3rd), innings pitched (3rd, 2,419.2), strikeouts (5th, 2,013), wins (7th) and WHIP (9th, 1.18).

In 3 seasons with Arizona (2008-10), Haren went 37-26 (.587) with a 3.56 ERA (232 ER in 586.1 IP) in 87 starts, the fourth-best winning pct. [min. 25 decisions] and fifth-best ERA [min. 300.0 IP] in club history by a starting pitcher. He was a NL All-Star in 2008-09 and was the D-backs' Opening Day starter in 2010.

"We're excited to have a person of Dan's experience and expertise in our front office," said Hazen. "His understanding of both analytics and implementation will be a great asset to our organization and we are looking forward to him making an impact in the next phase of his career."
