The Boston Red Sox today announced several personnel moves in the baseball operations department:
President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.
Claus, 47, has been with the Red Sox for 12 years, most recently in the role of Latin American Coordinator and International Crosschecker from 2010-16. Prior to his time in that role, he served as manager of the Class-A Sarasota Red Sox in 2004 and of the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs from 2005-06. In 2007, he became a major league advance scout. A graduate of the University of North Florida with a degree in management, Claus spent 12 seasons in the Angels organization prior to his time with Boston, including three seasons as an infielder in the club's minor league system.
Pino, 52, assumes his new role after five years as an International Crosschecker with the Red Sox. Prior to joining the club, Pino spent 11 seasons as a scout with coverage in both Florida and Puerto Rico for the Cubs (2003-09) and Pirates (2010-11). A second-round draft selection by the Chicago White Sox in 1982, the Cuban-born Pino played parts of nine minor league seasons with the White Sox (1982-87), Blue Jays (1988), Twins (1989), Braves (1990), and Brewers (1990). He then spent 12 years as a coach and manager in the Blue Jays organization before beginning his scouting career.
Ward, 55, joins the Red Sox after having worked in International Scouting for the Baltimore Orioles for the past 23 years. A native of Geelong, Victoria in Australia, Ward graduated from Deakin University in Geelong with a bachelor's degree in physiology and biomechanics. For the past 20 years, he has lived in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Lorenzo, 27, is entering his fifth year in the Red Sox organization. The Miami native spent this past season as Coordinator, International Scouting. In 2015, Lorenzo worked as a Major League Staff Assistant, operating the replay review system for the big league club, and served as a Spanish-Language Translator at the major league level. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team, Lorenzo started with Boston in 2013 as a Player Development intern in Fort Myers, FL. In 2014, he was a Baseball Operations intern in the areas of International Scouting and Player Personnel.
Kang, 29, assumes his new role after two seasons as an International Amateur Scout in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. A graduate of Pitzer College, he was drafted by the Red Sox in the 45th round of the 2010 June Draft and played three seasons (2010-12) as an infielder in Boston's minor league system. He spent the 2014 season as a Baseball Operations intern with the San Diego Padres.
Cruz, 35, a native of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, is a former Red Sox minor league infielder. After his playing career, he worked as an International Scout for the organization in the Dominican Republic for the five years (2012-16) before being elevated to his new role as Assistant Supervisor, Dominican Republic Scouting.
Slutsky, 26, has been in the Red Sox organization for five years, most recently serving as Coordinator, Advance Scouting for the past year. Prior to that role, the Canton, MA native served the club as Assistant, Advance Scouting for two seasons, working on a daily basis with the Red Sox major league coaching staff. A former Columbia University varsity baseball player and graduate with a degree in Economics and Political Science, Slutsky began his Red Sox career as a Baseball Operations intern in 2012 and served as an advance scouting intern in 2013.
Gimenez, 23, joined the Red Sox in the role of Assistant, Professional Scouting in October 2015 after serving as an intern in Major League Baseball's Labor Relations department for a portion of that season. A native of Miami, FL, Gimenez began his career in baseball with the Cleveland Indians as a Business Analytics intern in 2014. He is a 2015 graduate of Cornell University where he earned a degree in industrial and labor relations.
Cuellar, 30, is entering his third year with the Red Sox, having served as an intern in Baseball Operations and International Scouting in 2015, and as an intern in Dominican Scouting Operations in 2016 before being appointed to his new role of Assistant, Player Personnel. A native of Modesto, CA, Cuellar, who is bilingual, earned his bachelor's from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2007 and completed his master's degree there in 2014.
Perez, 40, has served in his current role as Area Scout in Puerto Rico for 10 years, and will continue in this capacity with the added responsibility of Player Personnel Crosschecker. Originally from Manati, Puerto Rico, he worked from 1997-2006 as a part-time scout with the Cleveland Indians before his time with the Red Sox. Perez, who earned his bachelor's in biology at the University of Puerto Rico, also spent 13 seasons coaching the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rican Winter League.
Agamennone, 41, is joining the Red Sox for the first time after serving as a scouting consultant for the San Diego Padres with coverage in the North Texas area. The native of Crofton, MD pitched in parts of seven minor league seasons in the Montreal Expos' (1998-2002, 2003), Baltimore Orioles' (2003), and Pittsburgh Pirates' (2004) systems. He earned his bachelor's in communication from the University of Maryland in 1998.
Ganley, 45, joins the Red Sox in his first role in a Major League Baseball front office. A native of Hilton, NY, he founded 400Hitter.com, a website providing stats and services to amateur baseball leagues since 1997. Ganley, who graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in electrical and computer engineering, also worked as a developer and principal engineer in the energy industry from 2002-16.
Edvalson, 50, worked with the Red Sox for the past two years as an Information Technology consultant before being named to his new position as Senior Baseball Systems Developer. A native of Ogden, UT, Edvalson graduated from the University of Utah in 1989 with a bachelor's in music.
Faggett, 42, has been a member of the Red Sox front office for nine years, most recently in the role of Assistant Director, Florida Baseball Operations since 2009. Prior to that role, he served as Assistant Director, Player Development from 2007-09. A graduate of the University of Texas, Arlington with a degree in electrical engineering, Faggett played nine seasons as an outfielder in the Red Sox' (1992-98) and San Diego Padres' (1998-2000) minor league systems.
Tapia, 29, grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and Miami, FL before attending the University of Florida, where he earned his bachelor's in business administration specializing in sports management. Since 2012, he has worked in fitness and wellness, owning and operating a CrossFit fitness studio in Miramar, FL. He is currently pursuing his master's in performance psychology from National University.
