Padres acquire C Luis Torrens from Cincinnati Reds

The San Diego Padres today announced they have acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The San Diego Padres today announced they have acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.
Torrens, 20, was selected by the Reds second overall in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft earlier today from the New York Yankees. He hit .250 (46-for-184) with 10 doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored in 52 games between Single-A Full Season Charleston and Single-A Short Season Staten Island. Over parts of three minor league seasons the right-handed hitter has hit .250 (146-for-585) with 31 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 51 RBI and 64 runs scored in 162 games, including a 2014 Mid-Season New York-Penn League All-Star selection in 2014.The Venezuela native was originally signed by the New York Yankees as an international free agent on July 2, 2012.
