The Minnesota Twins today announced plans for the 11th annual Holiday Week of Giving, when the organization will focus on giving back to the community during the holiday season. This year's week of activities runs Monday, December 12 through Friday, December 16.
Each day, Twins front office staff will participate in several events benefiting a variety of community causes. A brief description of each is below:
All Week -- American Red Cross "Holiday Mail for Heroes"
Help make cards of thanks encouragement and holiday cheer to members of our U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and military families, many of whom will be far away from home this holiday season.
Monday, December 12
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harbor Light Center
Volunteers will prepare and serve lunch, clean, and sort food donations at the Harbor Light Center, where more than 1,200 people are served meals at the shelter each day. Twins coach Gene Glynn will assist front office members at this event.
Tuesday, December 13
4 to 6 p.m. at Cookie Cart
Work with Cookie Cart youth employees making cookies in the Cookie Cart bakery. Working alongside the teens creates a natural opportunity for informal networking and career exploration. Depending on the week's schedule and bakery needs, volunteers may also work with teens practicing mock interviews or customer service scenarios.
Wednesday, December 14
9 to 11 a.m. at The Food Group
Volunteers will help sort and pack food at The Food Group warehouse, which provides free food, access to bulk food purchasing, and formalized food drive programs to hunger relief partners statewide. Former Twin Scott Leuis will assist front office members at this event.
Thursday, December 15
8 to 10 a.m. at Animal Humane Society
Help the shelter staff get the shelter ready to open for the day, including cleaning and organizing the adoption floor and working with shelter doctors and staff.
Friday, December 16
2 to 4 p.m. at Kids in Need Foundation Resource Center
Help to organize and inventory school and office supplies at the Kids in Need Foundation warehouse, which provides students most in need with free school supplies that make it possible for them to fully participate in classroom learning. Twins Hall of Famer Tony Oliva will assist front office members at this event.
