The Boston Red Sox have added six non-roster invitees to the team's 2017 Spring Training roster: infielder Matt Dominguez, outfielder Junior Lake, catchers Dan Butler and Jake DePew, and pitchers Edgar Olmos and Marcus Walden.

Dan Butler, C - Butler, 30, batted .308 (45-for-146) with a .399 on-base percentage and an .851 OPS in 48 games with Triple-A Pawtucket in 2016. Originally signed by Boston as a non-drafted free agent in 2009, he has appeared in 628 minor league games in the Red Sox (2009-14, 2016) and Washington Nationals (2015) organizations. Butler's lone major league experience came in 2014, when he played in seven games for Boston in August and September. The Arizona native was named Pawtucket's team MVP following the 2013 season, and in 2014 he was given the Lou Gorman Award from the Boston chapter of the BBWAA, an honor bestowed upon a minor league player that has demonstrated dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles while working his way to the major league team.
 
Jake DePew, C - DePew, 24, has appeared in 345 games over seven minor league seasons (2010-16) in the Rays organization since being selected by Tampa Bay in the ninth round of the 2010 June Draft. The right-handed batter has hit .218 (253-for-1,159) with 16 home runs, and in 2016 with Double-A Montgomery he set career bests in games (86), runs (26), hits (61), doubles (10), homers (9), RBI (42), and walks (26). A native of Granite City, IL, Depew has thrown out 123 of 289 (42.6%) attempted base stealers, including 54 of 128 (42.2%) at the Double-A level. In 2016 with Montgomery, he made 73 appearances (70 starts) behind the plate and ranked second among Southern League backstops in catcher caught stealing percentage (36.5, 19 of 52).
 
Matt Dominguez, 3B - Dominguez, 27, spent the majority of his 2016 season with Toronto's Triple-A Buffalo affiliate, batting .269 (128-for-475) and leading the Bisons in home runs (18) and RBI (67). He also appeared in five games and made three starts-two at third base and one at first base-over two major league stints with the Blue Jays. Selected by Florida in the first round (12th overall) of the 2007 June Draft, the right-handed batter has appeared in 362 big league games with the Marlins (2011), Houston Astros (2012-14), and Blue Jays (2016), hitting .231 (294-for-1,272) with 42 home runs and 48 doubles. He served as the Astros' primary third baseman from 2013-14, and in 2013 he ranked sixth among major leaguers at the position with eight defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs. 
 
Junior Lake, OF - Lake, 26, played in 22 games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016, making 10 starts and batting .200 (7-for-35) with three doubles and a home run. He also hit .231 (65-for-281) in 82 games for Triple-A Buffalo, and in his final 43 minor league contests he batted .288 (40-for-139) with a .392 on-base percentage. Signed by the Chicago Cubs as a minor league free agent in 2007, the right-handed hitter has appeared in 223 major league games between the Cubs (2013-15), Baltimore Orioles (2015), and Blue Jays (2016). He has hit .278 (57-for-205) with a .454 slugging percentage against major league left-handed pitching, batting .235 (155-for-659) in the majors overall. Born in the Dominican Republic, Lake is currently on the roster of Estrellas in the Dominican Winter League.
 
Edgar Olmos, LHP - Olmos, 26, made 42 appearances-all in relief-for Baltimore's Triple-A Norfolk affiliate in 2016. The left-hander was 4-4 with a 2.88 ERA (22 ER/68.2 IP) and 76 strikeouts, and from June 24 through the remainder of the season he posted a 1.86 ERA (8 ER/38.2 IP) and a .209 opponent batting average in 20 appearances. Overall, he held left-handed hitters to a .217 batting average (15-for-69) with 24 strikeouts and only one home run allowed. Selected by Florida in the third round of the 2008 June Draft, Olmos has appeared in 11 major league games and made two starts with the Marlins (2013) and Seattle Mariners (2015), going 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA (11 ER/19.0 IP). In 241 career minor league outings (73 starts), he is 20-42 with five saves and a 4.26 ERA (280 ER/591.1 IP).
 
Marcus Walden, RHP - Walden, 28, made 42 relief appearances in the Minnesota Twins organization in 2016, going 1-1 with six saves, a 2.40 ERA (15 ER/56.1 IP), and a .213 opponent batting average between Double-A Chattanooga (six games) and Triple-A Rochester (36 games). He held left-handed hitters to a .173 batting average (13-for-75) and a .227 slugging percentage last season, allowing only four extra-base hits, all doubles. Selected by Toronto in the ninth round of the 2007 June Draft, Walden is 36-39 with a 3.83 ERA (290 ER/681.1 IP) in 189 appearances (102 starts) in the Blue Jays (2007-14), Oakland A's (2014), Cincinnati Reds (2015), and Twins (2016) minor league systems. A native of Fresno, CA, he also appeared in 48 games for Lancaster in the independent Atlantic League in 2015.
