The Oakland A's agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Norge Ruiz, an international free agent from Cuba, on a minor league contract.
Ruiz pitched for three seasons in Cuba's Serie Nacional and was 24-17 with a 2.55 ERA in 60 games, including 55 starts. He made his debut in 2012 at the age of 18 and ranked sixth in the league with a 1.97 ERA while going 9-4 in 21 games, 17 starts, with Sancti Spiritus and Camaguey. The 22-year-old right-hander pitched for Holquin and Camaguey in 2013 and 2014. Ruiz made three starts for Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League this year and was 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA. He is rated as the third best international prospect by MLB.com.
