Mariners Make Three Roster Moves

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has selected infielder Mike Freeman from AAA Tacoma. Shortstop Jean Segura has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. To make room on the Major League, 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Paul Fry has been designated for assignment.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has selected infielder Mike Freeman from AAA Tacoma. Shortstop Jean Segura has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. To make room on the Major League, 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Paul Fry has been designated for assignment.
Seattle has 7-days to trade, release or outright Fry to the minors.
Freeman, 29, hit .333 (4x12) with 2 runs in three games with AAA Tacoma this season. He was removed from the 40-man roster during spring training when the club acquired Chase De Jong (rhp) from Los Angeles-NL. In 13 games with Seattle last season, he hit .385 (5x13) with 1 run, 1 double and 1 RBI after being acquired off Waivers from Arizona.
In eight minor league seasons, he has hit .290 (789x2717) with 443 runs, 133 doubles. 29 triples, 18 home runs and 270 RBI in 745 games in the Arizona (2010-16) and Seattle (2016-17) organizations. He was selected by Arizona in the 11th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Clemson University.
Segura, 27, injured himself in yesterday's game against Houston. In eight games this season, he was hitting .313 (10x32) with 6 runs, 1 home run, 3 RBI and 3 stolen bases. He was acquired from Arizona along with Mitch Haniger (of) and Zac Curtis (lhp) on Nov. 23, 2016.
In six Major League seasons, he has hit .280 (695x2481) with 319 runs, 95 doubles, 31 triples, 44 home runs, 211 RBI and 132 stolen bases in 640 games. He was signed by Los Angeles-AL as a non-draft international free agent on Jan. 22, 2007 bfore spending time in the Milwaukee (2012-15) and Arizona (2016) organizations.
Fry, 24, made just one appearance with AAA Tacoma before being designated for assignment. He was placed on the 40-man roster this offseason and in five minor league seasons he is 13-14 with a 2.89 ERA (76 ER, 237.0 IP) with 290 strikeouts in 151 games including 6 starts. He was selected by Seattle in the 17th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of St. Clair County Community College (Port Huron, MI).
