Prior to tonight's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox activated infielder Alen Hanson to the 25-man roster.
Hanson, 24, was claimed off waivers yesterday from Pittsburgh. He takes the roster spot of outfielder Adam Engel, who was optioned to Class AAA Charlotte following last night's game against the Indians.
Hanson made the Pirates Opening Day roster and hit .193 (11-57) with two triples and eight runs scored in 37 games before being designated for assignment on June 2. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Hanson made nine starts at second base this season while also appearing in two games at shortstop, two in right field and one at third base.
Hanson, a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, has appeared in 64 career games over two seasons with the Pirates (2016-17), batting .205 (18-88) with 13 runs scored.
He is a .281 (797-2,834) hitter with 136 doubles, 71 triples, 53 home runs, 316 RBI, 442 runs scored and 205 stolen bases in 719 games over seven minor-league seasons (2010-16) after signing with the Pirates as a free agent on July 14, 2009. Hanson recorded 10-plus triples each season from 2012-15 and was named by MLB.com as a Top 100 Prospect in baseball prior to each of the 2013-15 seasons.
