The Oakland A's traded third baseman Trevor Plouffe and cash to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, the club announced today.
Plouffe was batting .214 with seven home runs and 14 RBI in 58 games with the A's when he was designated for assignment on Thursday. He was 6-for-51 (.118) over his last 18 contests. Plouffe signed with the A's as a free agent prior to the 2017 season and is a .245 career hitter with 103 home runs and 371 RBI in 781 games in eight seasons in the majors with Minnesota (2010-16) and Oakland (2017).
