Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
Whalen (#63) will be in uniform and available for today's (4:05 p.m. PT) game vs. the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
 
Whalen, 23, is in his third stint with Seattle this season (also: May 6 and May 24-28). He's appeared in 1 game with the Mariners this season, taking the loss as the starting pitcher May 27 at Boston (5 ER, 5.1 IP). Rob made 7 starts with AAA Tacoma and was 0-4, with a 5.08 ERA (22 ER, 39.0 IP). Whalen began the season on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation before being activated and optioned to Tacoma on April 27.
 
Whalen was acquired by the Mariners along with RHP Max Povse from the Braves for OF Alex Jackson a Player to be Named Later (LHP Tyler Pike) on Nov. 28, 2016. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-hander went 1-2 with a 6.57 ERA (18 ER, 24.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks in 5 starts with the Braves last season. Whalen earned the win in his Major League debut, Aug. 3, 2016 vs. Pittsburgh, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts over 5.0 innings pitched. He was placed on the 15- day disabled list on Aug. 25 with a right shoulder fatigue and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Sept. 17. Whalen began the 2016 season with AA Mississippi, where he compiled a record of 7-5 with a 2.49 ERA (28 ER, 101.1 IP) with 94 strikeouts and 37 walks in 18 starts. After being promoted to AAA Gwinnett on July 14, Whalen went 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA (4 ER, 18.2 IP) with 18 strikeouts and 7 walks in 3 starts.
 
Curtis, 24, was recalled prior to last night's game for his 2nd stint with the Mariners this season. He worked 3.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs. The 5-foot-9, 192-pound left-hander, had previously combined to strikeout 1 over 1.2 scoreless innings in relief at Toronto on May 11 (1.0,0,0,0,0,1,HB) and May 12 (0.2,0,0,0,0,0). Curtis, who is 1 of 6 Travelers to be named to the Texas League All-Star team, has spent the majority of the season with AA Arkansas, going 0-2 with 7 saves and a 2.66 ERA (7 ER, 23.2 IP) in 19 relief appearances. He has limited opponents to a .207 (18x87) average, while walking 5 and striking out 27. Curtis is 7-for-9 in save opportunities, ranking T2nd in saves in the Texas League. Dating back to May 9, he is 0-1 with a 4 saves and 1.69 ERA (2 ER, 10.2 IP) in his last 10 Double-A relief appearances. 
 
The native of Panama City Beach, FL, Curtis was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the 6th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University. He made his Major League debut with the Diamondbacks last season on April 30 vs. Colorado and went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (10 ER, 13.1 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 13 walks in 21 games with Arizona. Curtis was acquired from Arizona along with INF Jean Segura and OF Mitch Haniger in exchange for RHP Taijuan Walker and INF Ketel Marte on Nov. 23, 2016. In parts of 4 minor league seasons with Arizona (2014-16) and Seattle (2017), he has compiled a career record of 7-7 with 56 saves and a 2.09 ERA (29 ER, 125.0 IP) in 114 games.
