Umpires, official scorers & coaches announced for 2017 All-Star Game

Joe West, who became the third umpire in history to work his 5,000th career game in June, will call balls and strikes and will serve as Crew Chief at Baseball's 88th All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on Tuesday, July 11th at Marlins Park in Miami.

Joe West, who became the third umpire in history to work his 5,000th career game in June, will call balls and strikes and will serve as Crew Chief at Baseball's 88th All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on Tuesday, July 11th at Marlins Park in Miami.
West will work his third Midsummer Classic (previous: 1987, 2005), including his second as Crew Chief (2005). He has called six World Series, nine League Championship Series and eight Division Series, and his 123 Postseason games rank second behind Gerry Davis' 133. West's crew will include Angel Hernandez (first base), Mark Carlson (second base), Chris Conroy (third base), Manny Gonzalez (left field) and Mike Estabrook (right field). This will mark the third career All-Star assignment for Hernandez (previous: 1999, 2009); the second for Carlson (2003); and the first for Conroy, Gonzalez and Estabrook. The Replay Official who will be based in the Replay Operations Center at MLB Advanced Media during the 2017 All-Star Game will be Doug Eddings, a 19th-year Major League Umpire. Eddings worked the 2004 All-Star Game in Houston.
The Minor League Baseball Umpires who will work the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game are Nate Tomlinson (home plate) of the Texas League; Erich Bacchus (first base) of the Eastern League; Jason Starkovich (second base) of the Pacific Coast League; and Skyler Shown (third base) of the Southern League. All four umpires will be on the field for the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on Monday, July 10th. Starkovich and Shown also will be a part of Sunday's All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game.
The official scorers for the 2017 All-Star Game will be MLB's Miami-based scorer Ron Jernick, as well as Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post, the President of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA), and Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Vice President of the BBWAA. MLB official scorer Brennan McDonald will have scoring duties for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
American League All-Star Manager Terry Francona of the Cleveland Indians has invited manager Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays to join his AL staff. Cash, who is in his third season at the helm of the Rays, will make his All-Star coaching debut. Francona's Indians staff - including first base coach Sandy Alomar Jr., bullpen coach Jason Bere, pitching coach Mickey Callaway, bench coach Brad Mills, assistant hitting coach Matt Quatraro, third base coach Mike Sarbaugh and hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo - will also work with the AL All-Stars. Nick Paparesta, head athletic trainer of the Oakland Athletics, Doug Teter, assistant athletic trainer of the Detroit Tigers, and Jose Vazquez, strength and conditioning coach for the Texas Rangers, will round out the AL staff.
National League All-Star manager Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs has invited manager Don Mattingly of the host Miami Marlins to join his NL staff. Mattingly, a six-time All-Star for the New York Yankees (1984-89), is in his second season at the helm of the Marlins. He served on Joe Torre's AL coaching staff at the 2004 Midsummer Classic in Houston, and as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was invited by San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy to coach on the NL staff at the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati. Maddon's Cubs staff - including quality control coach Henry Blanco, catching coach Mike Borzello, pitching coach Chris Bosio, assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske, first base coach Brandon Hyde, third base coach Gary Jones, hitting coach John Mallee, bench coach Dave Martinez and bullpen coach Lester Strode - also will coach the NL. Steve Baumann, head athletic trainer of the Cincinnati Reds, Dustin Luepker, head athletic trainer of the Marlins, and Ty Hill, strength and condition coach of the Marlins, will tend to the NL All-Stars.
MLB All-Star Week includes the MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard at Marlins Park (July 11th), Gatorade All-Star Workout Day featuring the T-Mobile Home Run Derby (July 10th), All-Star Sunday featuring the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game (July 9th), All-Star FanFest at the Miami Beach Convention Center (July 7th-11th), plus a lineup of additional events taking place around the city. The 88th Midsummer Classic will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 180 countries. FOX Deportes will provide Spanish language coverage in the United States, while ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game.
