The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

Boyer, 36, pitched a scoreless 12th inning in yesterday's game against the Yankees. Signed by Boston to a minor league contract on April 5, he was selected to the major league roster on May 28 and has since posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER/24.0 IP) in 18 appearances, 14 of which have been scoreless. Selected by Atlanta in the third round of the 2000 June Draft, the Georgia native has a 4.11 ERA (196 ER/429.1 IP) and four saves in 412 career appearances, all in relief, over parts of 11 major league seasons with the Braves (2005-2009), St. Louis Cardinals (2009), Arizona Diamondbacks (2009-10), New York Mets (2011), San Diego Padres (2014), Minnesota Twins (2015), Milwaukee Brewers (2016), and Red Sox (2017).
 
Maddox, 26, made his major league debut earlier this season, recording a perfect seventh inning at Houston on June 17 and throwing a scoreless eighth inning on June 19 at Kansas City. The right-hander is 2-2 with five saves and a 2.36 ERA (9 ER/34.1 IP) over 25 games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket this season, having allowed only one run on two hits in his last six outings (5.2 innings). Over six professional seasons since being selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2012 June Draft, Maddox is 13-17 with 22 saves, a 4.27 ERA (117 ER/246.1 IP), and 209 strikeouts over 131 minor league games, including 13 starts.
 
Holt, 29, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with vertigo on April 21 and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on June 24. In 10 games between Pawtucket and Portland during his most recent rehab stint, he went 8-for-36 (.222) with a home run while making three starts as a designated hitter, two in left field, two at third base, two at shortstop, and one at second base. He has gone 2-for-15 (.091) in five games with Boston this season, including one start each at left field and third base. Over parts of six major league seasons with the Pirates (2012) and the Red Sox (2013-17), the 2015 All-Star has hit .270 (359-for-1,328) with 70 doubles, 12 triples, 13 home runs, 123 RBI, and 25 stolen bases.
