The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled catcher Brett Nicholas from Triple-A Round Rock. The team has also placed right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross on the 10-day disabled list with a blister on his right index finger.
Nicholas, 29, will be seeking his first action with Texas this season. The left-handed batter has spent the campaign at Round Rock, posting a .311/.353/.469/.822 (85-273) slash line with 7 home runs and 38 RBI in 69 games. He made his major league debut with Texas in 2016, batting .275 (11-40) with 2 home runs and 4 RBI in 15 games spanning two stints with the Rangers.
Ross has gone 2-2 with a 7.52 ERA in 7 games/starts for Texas this season, including a no-decision in his start yesterday at Tampa Bay. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 3.
