CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have traded right-handed pitcher Tyler Clippard to the Houston Astros in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Clippard, 32, is 2-6 with a 4.27 ERA (22 ER/46.1 IP) and 54 strikeouts in 51 combined appearances this season between New York-AL and the White Sox. He was acquired by the Sox from the Yankees as part of a seven-player deal on July 18.
Clippard has gone 48-41 with a 3.04 ERA (227 ER/671.1 IP), 59 saves, 738 strikeouts and 191 holds in 609 career appearances (eight starts) over 11 major-league seasons with the Yankees (2007, '16-17), Washington (2008-14), the Mets (2015), Arizona (2016) and the White Sox (2017).
To take Clippard's spot on the 25-man roster, the White Sox will make a corresponding move prior to Tuesday's game at Los Angeles-NL.
