Arlington, TX - The Texas Rangers and Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company (Globe Life) today announced an extension of their naming rights partnership for the team's new ballpark that will open in Arlington for the 2020 season.
The agreement establishes Globe Life Field as the name for the new ballpark, which is being built as a public-private partnership between the City of Arlington and the Rangers at a cost of approximately $1.1 billion. The extension of the Rangers-Globe Life partnership goes through 2048.
"Globe Life has been an outstanding partner over the last four years, and the Rangers are excited that this relationship will continue long into the future," said Ray Davis, Texas Rangers Co-Chairman and Managing Partner. "We thank Globe Life for its commitment as the naming rights partner for the beautiful new Globe Life Field and for being a leader in its community efforts with our youth."
Globe Life became the naming rights partner for then-Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in February 2014 with the name change to Globe Life Park in Arlington. Under terms of the new deal, Globe Life will continue to be the Official Life and Health Insurance Company of the Rangers. The company will also maintain its strong role as a community partner as it has made a substantial commitment to support youth baseball and softball programs in conjunction with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.
"We are thrilled to continue as the Official Life and Health Insurance Company of the Texas Rangers," said Bill Leavell, President and CEO, Globe Life Direct Response. "We've seen positive results from our Globe Life partnership. It's extremely exciting to be a part of the game plan for Globe Life Field and to continue the outstanding work carried out for children through the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.
"On behalf of our 1,500 McKinney-based employees and nearly 400,000 Texas policyholders, we look forward to the opening of Globe Life Field's state-of-the-art facility."
Over the past five years, nearly $420,000 has been distributed to more than 50 different organizations impacting more than 47,000 kids and 39 different communities through the Globe Life Texas Rangers Baseball and Softball grant program. Grants have been awarded to organizations in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana that vary from cities to Boys and Girls Clubs to high school programs. Nearly 90% of those that receive grants target underserved communities.
In conjunction with today's announcement, Globe Life and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will award a $10,000 grant to the Arlington Sam Houston High School Alumni Association to replace batting cages and purchase new equipment for the school's baseball program.
In November 2016, it was announced that the indoor facility at the new Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex presented by Toyota in West Dallas will be named the Globe Life Training Center with the nearly 39,000 square-foot facility housing fields, weight and training rooms, and classrooms.
"The Rangers are so pleased to be continuing our naming rights partnership with Globe Life," said Joe Januszewski, Rangers Executive Vice President, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer. "Over the past four seasons, we have built a strong foundation between our two organizations. As we prepare to move into our ballpark in 2020, we look forward to the increased opportunities to deepen our relationship at the new Globe Life Field and throughout the community.
"Globe Life's leadership embraced the partnership with the Rangers from day one. They are a natural fit to continue as our naming rights partner. We are thankful for their support and excited to move together from one iconic ballpark to the best in class venue coming soon to Rangers nation."
Globe Life Field will not only be the Texas Rangers new home but also a multipurpose sports and entertainment venue that will include capabilities for hosting high school, college, and international sports as well as entertainment tours. The design for the new ballpark, which will be built on what is now a team parking lot south of Randol Mill Road, includes a retractable roof for climate control and shelter for fans during the hot summer months.
