Eloy Jiménez and Michael Kopech named Minor League Players of the Month

Class AA Birmingham outfielder Eloy Jiménez has been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Month for August/September, while Class AAA Charlotte right-hander Michael Kopech has been named Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.

Class AA Birmingham outfielder Eloy Jiménez has been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Month for August/September, while Class AAA Charlotte right-hander Michael Kopech has been named Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.
 
Jiménez, 20, batted .345 (41-119) with nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 19 RBI and 21 runs scored over 30 games in August/September between Birmingham and Class A Winston-Salem to earn consecutive White Sox Minor League Player of the Month awards. In addition to also winning July's award, he also was named Carolina League Player of the Week for the period of August 7-13. 
 
Jiménez, who is currently rated by MLB.com as the No. 7 prospect in baseball, batted .348 (62-178) with 16 doubles, one triple, 11 homers, 33 RBI and 31 runs scored in 47 games after being acquired by the White Sox from the Cubs in a four-player deal, which included José Quintana, on July 13.
 
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Jiménez hit .312 (104-333) with 22 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, 65 RBI, 54 runs scored, a .379 on-base percentage and .568 slugging percentage over 89 games between Birmingham, Winston-Salem and Class A Myrtle Beach this season. Jiménez was named to the 2017 Carolina League mid and postseason All-Star teams.
 
Kopech, 20, went 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA (5 ER/29.0 IP), 38 strikeouts and a .210 (22-105) opponents average over five starts in August/September between Charlotte and Birmingham. He tossed 9.0 consecutive scoreless IP while striking out 21 batters over two starts from August 5-12. 
 
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Kopech, who is rated by MLB.com as the No. 12 prospect in baseball, went 9-8 with a 2.88 ERA (43 ER/134.1 IP), 172 strikeouts and a .193 (92-476) opponents average over 25 starts this season, his first in the Sox organization. He finished tied for fifth among minor-league pitchers in strikeouts. Kopech was named the Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher, was a SL mid and postseason All-Star and represented the White Sox in the 2017 Futures Game in Miami.
