D-backs recall Banda, Hazelbaker and Vargas from Triple-A Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled LHP Anthony Banda (@anthony_banda3), OF Jeremy Hazelbaker (j_hazelbaker) and INF Ildemaro Vargas (@ildemaro_tigre) from Triple-A Reno. The D-backs have 34 players on their active roster and the 40-man roster remains at 40.

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled LHP Anthony Banda (@anthony_banda3), OF Jeremy Hazelbaker (j_hazelbaker) and INF Ildemaro Vargas (@ildemaro_tigre) from Triple-A Reno. The D-backs have 34 players on their active roster and the 40-man roster remains at 40.
Banda, 24, is 1-3 with a 7.32 ERA (16 ER in 19.2 IP) with 19 strikeouts and 8 walks in 4 starts with the D-backs with this season, including holding left-handed hitters to a .192 average (5-for-26). He went 8-7 with a 5.39 ERA (73 ER in 122.0 IP) in 22 starts for the Aces, including 16 strikeouts and just 3 walks over his last 2 regular-season starts.
Banda entered 2017 as the D-backs' No. 1 Prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com, and was Arizona's 2016 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 10-6 with a 2.88 ERA between Double-A Mobile and Reno.
Hazelbaker, 30, made the D-backs' Opening Day roster in 2017, and has hit .318 (14-for-44) with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 6 RBI in 33 games, including a .333 (5-for-15) mark in 17 pinch-hit appearances. He batted .279 (53-for-190) with 13 doubles, 5 triples, 6 home runs and 25 RBI in 52 games with the Aces.
Vargas, 26, has appeared in 2 games for the D-backs this season, and made his Major League debut on June 29 vs. Cardinals. He hit .312 (152-for-487) with 35 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs and 65 RBI in 113 games for Reno, and hit safely in 13 of his final 14 regular-season games (.345; 20-for-58). Named to the Pacific Coast League midseason All-Star Team in 2017, Vargas ranked among PCL leaders in doubles (1st), strikeout percentage (1st, 7.5), hits (4th) and runs (T-5th, 87).
Over 3 seasons in the D-backs' organization, Vargas has 423 hits and 109 walks with only 96 strikeouts. The native of Venezuela is in his third season in the D-backs' organization, having signed as a Minor League free agent on May 26, 2015, from the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League.
