Catcher has right to elect free agency

HOUSTON, TX —  The Houston Astros announced today that catcher Carlos Corporan has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple A Oklahoma City. Due to a prior outright, Corporan has the right to elect free agency. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Ed Wade.

Corporan, 27, spent most of the 2011 season with Houston, hitting .188 (29x154) with eight doubles and 11 RBI in 52 games. He started 46 games behind the plate for the Astros, after being called up from Triple A Oklahoma City on June 10. In 22 games at Oklahoma City, Corporan hit .250 (20x80) with three home runs and 12 RBI. He was originally signed by Houston as a minor league free agent on November 24, 2010.
