The "Blue" is back in Blue Jays

On Opening Day 2012, April 5 in Cleveland, the Blue Jays will take to the field in an updated yet familiar look that connects the past with the future. The Toronto Blue Jays have unveiled a new logo and their 2012 uniforms at Rogers Centre today.

"Updating our original logo, the strong affinity to go back to 'Blue' and returning the red Maple Leaf to the primary mark recognizes the classic look of which we feel baseball logos and uniforms should consist. This new look represents what the Blue Jays mean to our players, staff and most importantly, from the sentiment expressed by our fans." - Paul Beeston, President and CEO Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club and Rogers Centre.

"The uniforms truly capture the essence of the Blue Jays vision, showing our strong commitment to our country as Canada's only Major League Baseball Club."

The new look was designed to respect and recognize the rich history the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club has established over 35 seasons but with a modernized feel that reflects a consistency in what the baseball uniform should look like. A look that clearly represents the Toronto Blue Jays has been carried through the new home, road and alternate uniforms.

Utilizing the original elements of the past, the "Blue" has been returned to the Blue Jays, and is reflective in all three uniforms. Redesigning the logo and uniforms took upwards of eighteen months to complete. Working with Anne Occi, VP Design, and her team at Major League Baseball, as well as members of the Blue Jays staff, Manager John Farrell and several players, an image was developed that exemplifies tradition, respect, honour and achievement, in a clean, traditional baseball look.

THE LOGO

The Toronto Blue Jays have refined their classic look, using an updated version of the original Blue Jays primary mark. The logo and uniforms were created by the Toronto Blue Jays with the assistance of the Design Services division of Major League Baseball led by Anne Occi, Vice President of Design.

The Blue Jays Primary Club Logo features the Blue Jays bird head with the red Maple Leaf and ball in the centre, an arched solid blue font "TORONTO" above and scooped new split letter "BLUE JAYS" font in blue below. The logo is fully encased in a blue and white split line circle.

The Blue Jays Secondary Club Logo, features a Blue Jays bird head in profile with a blue crown, navy blue beak and neck, and punctuated by the red Maple Leaf.

The other Blue Jays Secondary Club Logo features a Blue Jays bird head in profile with a blue crown, navy blue beak and neck, and the red Maple Leaf that accentuates the red laced baseball in the background.

THE UNIFORMS

The Blue Jays are the first team to use a PUFF PATCH from Majestic Athletic in the fabrication of its new logo. Designed to lift the logo graphic off the double-knit polyester jersey, it provides a new dimension like never before and gives the Blue Jays bird logo its realistic look.

HOME UNIFORM - White

The Blue Jays home uniform starts with a full button white jersey with arched "BLUE JAYS" split lettering font in blue and white across the chest and the secondary logo bird head underneath on the player's left chest. The player number on the back features the same split letter font while the player name appears in a standard solid blue font. The sleeves have a blue-white-blue trim along the bottom that matches the outside stripes on each leg of the white pants. A blue belt and blue shoes complete the classic finish on this home uniform.

ROAD UNIFORM - Grey

The Blue Jays road uniform starts with a full button traditional road grey jersey with an arched "TORONTO" split letter font in blue and white across the chest. The player number on the back features the same split letter font while the player name appears in a standard solid blue font. The sleeves have a blue-white-blue trim along the bottom that matches the outside stripes on each leg of the grey pants. A blue belt and blue shoes complete the classic finish on this new road uniform.

ALTERNATE UNIFORM - Royal Blue

The Blue Jays alternate uniform starts with a full button royal blue jersey with an arched "BLUE JAYS" split letter font in white and blue across the chest and two white stripes at the bottom of each sleeve. This blue uniform top matches the blue cap and features solid white letters for the player's name and white-blue-white split font player number on the back. This classic blue jersey can be worn with either the home white or road grey uniform pants. A blue belt and blue shoes complete the classic blue finish on this new alternate uniform.

THE CAP

This solid blue fitted cap from New Era Cap Co. Inc. features the new secondary logo centered on the front with similar PUFF technology that lifts the logo off the cap giving it more dimension and realism than ever before. It will be worn with all home, road and alternate uniforms. The BP cap is similar but made from a lighter breathable fabric and comes in a flex-fit design.

THE BATTING PRACTICE JERSEY - Royal Blue

The BP jersey features a royal blue, full button jersey made with a lightweight cool-base fabric. It features the Blue Jays secondary logo on the left chest and navy blue mesh sides and sleeve panels. The player number on the back is in the white-blue-white split letter font and there is no player name. The same blue jersey will be worn at home and on the road and can be worn with either the home white or road grey pants. A blue belt and blue shoes complete this new BP look.
