The Chicago White Sox have claimed outfielder Daniel Palka off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.
Palka, 26, batted .274 (96-350) with 13 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 44 RBI, 51 runs scored, a .330 on-base percentage and .431 slugging percentage over 90 games between the Gulf Coast League Twins and Class AAA Rochester in the Minnesota organization. He was on the disabled list from May 29-July 23, which included a rehab assignment to the GCL Twins, with a fractured left index finger.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Palka is currently ranked by MLB.com as the No. 22 Prospect in the Twins organization. He was named a MiLB.com organizational All-Star in 2015 (Arizona) and 2016 (Minnesota). In 2016, Palka ranked fourth in Minor League Baseball with 34 homers.
Palka, who hits and throws left-handed, has hit .269 (558-2,071) with 117 doubles, 17 triples, 106 home runs, 354 RBI, 328 runs scored, 47 stolen bases, a .343 on-base percentage and .496 slugging percentage in 538 games over five career minor-league seasons.
Palka, a native of Greenville, S.C., originally was selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2013 draft before being traded to Minnesota on November 10, 2015 in return for catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann.
