Mariners brighten holidays for Seattle children

Annual Toys for Kids toy distribution at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House

Rick Rizzs, Dave Henderson, John Olerud, Julio Cruz and the Mariner Moose will visit children at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House as part of the annual Toys for Kids toy distribution tour.

In addition to toys, children will receive autographs and can pose for photos with Rizzs, Henderson, Olerud and the Moose.  Founded 16 years ago by former Mariners outfielder Dave Henderson and Mariners broadcaster Rick Rizzs, Toys For Kids is a non-profit organization that raises funds each year to purchase toys and gifts for children in the greater Seattle area that might not otherwise receive them.  Over the past 10 years, the Toys For Kids dinner/auction has raised over $850,000 to benefit several hospitals and organizations that serve homeless and needy families.  The fundraising efforts culminate each year in a massive toy-buying spree at Toys R Us and a series of holiday parties to distribute the gifts.

In addition to the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, beneficiaries of Toys For Kids include Seattle Children’s Hospital, Harborview Medical Center, The Country Doctor, Seattle Children’s Home, First Place, Union Gospel Mission Women and Children Shelter, Broadview Women’s Shelter, Atlantic Street Center, First Avenue Service Center, Hopelink, Vision House, YWCA Seattle Emergency Housing and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
