Rockies Acquire LHP Nick Schmidt from San Diego to Complete Trade for Huston Street

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has acquired left-handed pitcher Nick Schmidt from San Diego to complete the trade that sent right-handed pitcher Huston Street to San Diego.

Schmidt, 26, split the 2011 season between High-A Lake Elsinore and on a rehab assignment with Rookie level Arizona Padres in the San Diego organization. Between the two stops he combined to go 3-5 with a 3.84 ERA (63.1 ip, 27 er), 23 walks and 58 strikeouts in 12 starts. Schmidt was originally selected by the Padres in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arkansas. In parts of four Minor League seasons (missed 2008 season due to injury) Schmidt is 16-24 with a 4.61 ERA (275.1 ip, 141 er), 125 walks and 246 strikeouts in 65 games/61 starts. The St. Louis native has surrendered just 18 home runs in 275.1 career professional innings pitched.

The Rockies still have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
