Indians name Derek Falvey & Avid Stearns Director of Baseball Operations

CLEVELAND, OH  –  The Cleveland Indians today appointed DEREK FALVEY and DAVID STEARNS to the position of Director of Baseball Operations.

Derek Falvey has been promoted to the position of Director, Baseball Operations (Player Personnel and Acquisitions).  Derek is in his fifth season with the Cleveland Indians and has been a member of the Cleveland Indians Baseball Operations Department since joining the club in November 2007.  Derek spent the 2011 season as Assistant Director of Baseball Operations.  In his role as Director, Baseball Operations, he will focus primarily on player personnel and acquisitions.  Derek pitched for Trinity College in Hartford, CT where he earned a degree in economics in June 2005.

David Stearns has been hired by the Club as Director, Baseball Operations (Contracts, Strategy and Analysis).  David joins the Indians front office after spending the last three years since October 2008 working for the Major League Baseball Commissioner’s Office in New York City.  Most recently he spent the last 13 months in the position of Manager, Labor Relations; assisting club’s in the salary arbitration process, handling uniform player contracts and was a member of MLB’s negotiating team for the recently completed Collective Bargaining Agreement.  In his new position with the Indians, David will focus primarily on player contracts, strategy and analysis.  Prior to joining the MLB Central Office he worked in the Baseball Operations Departments of the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Fall League. He is a 2007 graduate of Harvard University.
