Red Sox fans set new weekend sales record for inaugural Spring Training games at JetBlue Park

More than 34,000 tickets sold after fans line up days in advance of Saturday’s on-sale

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today announced that a new record has been set for weekend ticket sales for the inaugural season of JetBlue Park at Fenway South, the team’s new 106-acre Spring Training and Player Development Complex in Lee County, Florida. The number of tickets sold, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 17 through Sunday, December 18 at midnight, was 34,705 – the highest since 2006 when 34,315 tickets were sold for the 2007 Spring Training season.

“We are grateful for the extraordinary support fans have shown this weekend – many of whom were lining up days in advance for an opportunity to purchase tickets to the opening season of JetBlue Park at Fenway South,” said Red Sox Executive Vice President/Business Affairs Jonathan Gilula. “We are excited for the 2012 season at our new Spring Training complex, and once again thank the citizens of Lee County and their elected officials for their vision and support in making this exceptional new facility a reality.”

While only limited availability remains for games on March 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24, fans still have numerous opportunities to purchase tickets for the team’s first Spring Training season at JetBlue Park. Tickets can be purchased in person at the City of Palms Park ticket office in Fort Myers, FL, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., online at redsox.com, or by phone at 877-REDSOX9. Fans who require ADA accessible seating may also call 877-REDSOX9.  Hearing impaired fans may call the Red Sox TTY line at (617) 226-6644.

This past weekend also included a Yard Sale at City of Palms Park on Saturday giving fans an opportunity to purchase a selection of items from the Red Sox’ 20-year history at the ballpark. After only 30 minutes, the Yard Sale had been cleared of more than half of its inventory with the majority of items sold after only two hours. The Yard Sale included memorabilia from former and current players, such as jerseys, signed artwork, ballpark furniture and other collectables. A portion of the Yard Sale proceeds will be donated to three local charitable organizations: Police Athletic League of Fort Myers; Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc.; and Child Care of Southwest Florida, Inc.

2012 will mark the Red Sox’ first Spring Training season at Fenway South, which will provide a single, state-of-the-art, year-round site where both Major and Minor League teams will train together. JetBlue Park, the ballpark that sits within the Fenway South complex, features the identical seating bowl geometry and playing field dimensions as Fenway Park in Boston, including a replica of the Green Monster wall with the manual scoreboard originally installed at Fenway Park in the 1970’s.
