Minnesota Twins announce spring training invites

25 Non-Roster Players To Be In Camp

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have extended spring training invites to 25 players who are not on the Major League roster.

The spring training invite list includes 10 pitchers: left-handers Phil Dumatrait, who split the 2011 season with Triple-A Rochester and Minnesota, and Aaron Thompson, who appeared in four games with Pittsburgh in 2011; right-handers Jason Bulger, who has Major League experience with Arizona (2005) and the Los Angeles Angels (2006-11), Jared Burton, who has Major League experience with Cincinnati (2007-2011), Sam Deduno, who has Major League experience with Colorado (2010) and San Diego (2011), Casey Fien, who has Major League experience with Detroit (2009-10), Luis Perdomo, who has Major League experience with San Diego (2009-10), Daryl Thompson, who has made appearances with the Cincinnati Reds (2008 and 2011), P.J. Walters, who has Major League experience with St. Louis (2009-11) and Toronto (2011), and Brendan Wise, who spent most of 2011 at Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization.  

Five catchers have been invited to camp: Chris Herrmann, the Twins sixth round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Danny Lehmann, the Twins eighth round pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Rene Rivera, who split the 2011 season between Triple-A Rochester and Minnesota, Dan Rohlfing, the Twins 14th round pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, and J.R. Towles, who has Major League experience with Houston (2007-11).  

Seven infielders have been invited to camp: Aaron Bates, who has Major League experience with Boston (2007-08), Sean Burroughs, who has Major League experience with San Diego (2002-05), Tampa Bay (2006) and Arizona (2011), Ray Chang, who spent the 2011 season at Triple-A Rochester, Brian Dozier, the Twins eighth round pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Pedro Florimon, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore in December, Michael Hollimon, who has Major League experience with Detroit (2008), and Steve Pearce, who has Major League experience with Pittsburgh (2007-11).   

Three outfielders have been invited to camp: Matt Carson, who has Major League experience with Oakland (2009-10), Brian Dinkelman, who made his Major League debut with the Twins in 2011, and Wilkin Ramirez, who has Major League experience with Detroit (2009) and Atlanta (2011).

In addition to 10 minor league staff members, the Major League staff will be joined by the following individuals during Spring Training:  Eddie Guardado, Jim Kaat, Tom Kelly, Tony Oliva and Terry Steinbach, as well as National Baseball Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Paul Molitor.

Twins pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Fort Myers, Florida, on Saturday, February 18, with workouts beginning Sunday, February 19, while the balance of the squad reports on Thursday, February 23, with the first full-squad workout taking place Friday, February 24.  The Twins annual photo day will be held Monday, February 27, at 8:00 am.

The Twins, who have a 35-game Grapefruit League exhibition schedule, will open their spring home season on Saturday, March 3 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:05 pm (EST).
