Boston Red Sox announce additional recipients of the "100 Acts of Kindness"

The Boston Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation today announced that Samaritans and The Dimock Center have been chosen as the latest beneficiaries of the "100 Acts of Kindness," a program that recognizes and supports the work of charitable organizations throughout New England during Fenway Park's 100th anniversary season. This weekend's events bring the total number of "Acts of Kindness" to 10.

Samaritans - Make Noise to Save a Life: The Boston Red Sox will support the Make Noise to Save a Life fundraiser event, 'Make Noise 3', at the House of Blues Boston on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. The event will raise awareness and funds for Samaritans, a local suicide prevention and support organization that serves the greater Boston and Metrowest communities. The Red Sox will help raise awareness and funds for the organization in addition to making a financial contribution. The event will feature the blended beats of Joe Bermudez, a four-time 2011 #1 Billboard artist who has remixed tracks for Britney Spears, Rihanna and Katy Perry, and provides an opportunity for all to make noise, rally together and raise much needed funds for an important cause. The Dimock Center: The Red Sox Foundation will organize a Community Service Day with students from the Red Sox Scholars program at the Dimock Center in Roxbury to mark the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday, January 16, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Red Sox Scholars program provides scholarships and mentoring for academically talented and financially challenged middle school students from Boston Public Schools, and is presented by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The Red Sox Scholars will be joined by members of the Red Sox Front Office including Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine, who will be present between 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The group will paint murals and make cubbies for the pre-school facilities at The Dimock Center. Recognized nationally as a model for the delivery of comprehensive health and human services in an urban community, The Dimock Center provides the residents of Boston with convenient access to quality health care and human services. The Center is located at 55 Dimock Street in Roxbury, MA. The event is open to media but closed to the general public.

About the 100 Acts of Kindness: As a way to highlight and support the important work done by the many charitable institutions throughout New England, the Red Sox will be engaging in "100 Acts of Kindness" with various not-for-profit organizations during the 100th anniversary season of Fenway Park in 2012. These "100 Acts of Kindness" will take on a number of different forms, including donations, volunteer efforts and hosting community events. Each Act will be designed to highlight causes throughout New England above and beyond the thousands of charitable activities that the Red Sox already perform each year. All Acts of Kindness will be conducted by a combination of Red Sox ownership, players, alumni and staff. Additional Acts of Kindness will be announced throughout 2012, culminating with 100 Acts by the end of year.
