LHP Matt Harrison agrees to terms on one-year contract for 2012

Three players remain eligible for salary arbitration

Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced this evening that left-handed pitcher Matt Harrison has agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2012 season. No further terms were disclosed.

With Harrison’s agreement, three unsigned Rangers remain eligible for salary arbitration: catcher Mike Napoli, infielder Elvis Andrus, and outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Harrison was 14-9 with a 3.39 ERA in 31 games/30 starts with the Rangers in 2011. He had the second lowest ERA among Texas starters, was second on the staff in quality starts (20), and tied for third in wins. Harrison issued just 13 home runs in 185.2 innings with his ratio of 0.63 HR per 9.0 innings ranking as fourth best in the A.L. He was 3-0, 2.04 in five starts during July.

Harrison is 30-19, 4.49 in 94 games/62 starts in his major league career with the Rangers from 2008-2011. He was acquired from Atlanta in a seven-player trade in July 2007.

RANGERS HOST NEXEN HEROES OF THE KOREAN BASEBALL ORGANIZATION IN SURPRISE, ARIZONA

The Rangers are hosting the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Professional Baseball Organization at the team’s complex in Surprise, Arizona.

The Nexen Heroes arrived in Surprise on Monday and will be training on the back fields of the Rangers complex in preparation for their 2012 regular season through February 16. The 43 players and 20 staff members from the team are using the Rangers minor league clubhouse and training facilities. The Nexen Heroes are managed by Kim Si-Jin.

In addition, the Kansas City Royals are hosting the KBO’s Kia Tigers at their minor league facility in Surprise for the next month.
