Deshaies to be guest on Astroline tomorrow (Feb. 2)

Astros offseason call-in radio show continues with third of four Thursday shows

HOUSTON, TX — Former Astros pitcher and current TV broadcaster Jim Deshaies will be this week’s guest on the club’s popular Astroline call-in radio show at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. Hosted by Hall of Fame Broadcaster Milo Hamilton, Astroline is broadcast live from Buffalo Wild Wings at 510 Gray Street. The show will air on Thursday nights, rather than the customary Wednesdays, on four occasions this offseason. The final Thursday date will be Feb. 23.

The show is open to the public and airs on the club’s flagship station, KTRH 740 AM. Listeners can call the show with questions at 713-212-5874. Archived broadcasts from this year’s shows are also available on the team’s website.

The 2012 season marks Deshaies’ 16th as color analyst for Astros television, having served in that role since 1997. As a player, he set a then-Astros club record as a rookie in 1986 with 12 victories and went on to collect the fourth-most victories by a lefty in franchise history with 61. He also set a modern-day Major League record on Sept. 23, 1986, when he struck out the first eight batters he faced in a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Deshaies owns a lifetime 84-95 Major League record, which includes time with New York-AL (1984), Houston (1985-91), San Diego (1992), Minnesota (1993-94), San Francisco (1993) and Philadelphia (1995).

Hamilton began his Hall of Fame radio career as a disc jockey on the Armed Forces Radio Network during Thanksgiving week in 1945. The 2012 season will be his 28th with the Astros and his 59th year broadcasting Major League Baseball.

Tomorrow’s Astroline is the 10th of 18 scheduled shows during its five-month run leading into the 2012 baseball season. The program will move to Florida in late February to the ESPN Club restaurant, located at the Disney Boardwalk, after the Astros have reported to Spring Training in Kissimmee, FL. The first of four broadcasts from Florida will be on Feb. 29.

Astroline, presented by Budweiser, features interviews, news and information on the Houston Astros. The show features a different guest each week, ranging from current and former Astros players to front office personnel.
